“Deep beneath the streets of Budapest lie the secrets of a once a brilliant inventor. Their name has been forgotten, but perhaps we can descend into their realm and uncover its mysteries.”
Going down a short stairwell, we emerge into the wonderful aesthetics of Secret Subway. Lots of little gadgets and antiquated mechanisms lying dormant, waiting to be brought back to life. The builders went for a realistic design, connecting all the pieces, giving each item a purpose, and avoiding out-of-place objects. With their attention to detail, the room designers created a feeling of being in an old, somewhat crazed, inventor’s workshop.
Secret Subway contains a variety of puzzle, with a lot of hands-on activities: the valves can be opened, the switches can be flipped. Even though the puzzles are logical, the room encourages playing around, so it’s as fun to keep spinning dials as it is to take a moment and think about in which direction. The fairly linear puzzle progression ranges from easy to hard, though mostly in the medium range.
Perhaps I should mention the crown jewel of the room, a certain contraption… but I can’t say much about it without ruining the surprise.
You should play Secret Subway! With a friendly host and immersive environment full of puzzles, it was a highlight on our trip to Budapest.
